Thank you everyone for your hard work last week. While this is not ideal, I think you all are doing a great job. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have ideas for improvement on my end.
This week we are going to focus on effective email communication. You have two articles to read and a reflection for each. Then you will be asked to send me draft emails of three different email type situations (casual, formal, and professional). Only one email is required this week, the other two will be next week. Reflections will be done via Google forms (links in the weekly plan and at the end of this blog post). Articles are linked in the weekly plan and will also be at the end of this blog post. Emails can just be sent to me via email. Thanks for all your hard work. Please let me know if you have any questions. Article 1 Reflection 1 Article 2 Reflection 2

Welcome to our first week of Phase II!!! Below you will find a picture of the plan for the week. Each day should have something in either the instruction or activity section (or sometimes both). On this website there will be an accompanying blog post for the week which will then also included any resources for each day. I will be posting the week's goals and resources by Monday morning at the latest for the entire week. You should only work on the given assignments on the given days though. This will prevent you from spending too much time on school work and will encourage you to take breaks and create a new schedule and pattern for yourself. This is a marathon not a sprint people :) If you've got questions, please email me ([email protected]) I will respond to you as quickly as I can.
Hello all,
I hope you are all finding some comfort in at least knowing that we now have an answer as to if we're going back to in-person class or not. I know for me personally this is not the way I was hoping to finish out the year, but actually having a decision on not going back at least gives me a direction to go with this and allows me to take steps forward. Next week is "Spring Break" although I know it will feel much the same as these last few weeks have felt. Know though that during Spring Break I will not be posting as we should all be taking a break from this new normal, and trying to recharge our batteries in preparation for starting Phase II of the distance learning plan from the District. Monday April 20th will be our first day of Phase II and the first time I will be providing assignments to you virtually. I am currently working on a plan for that first week back. My goal is to have each week planned by Sunday night (at the latest) and sent out to you via Skyward Monday morning at the latest. I will send out a plan for the week which will include links to learning and activities or will state where you can find such things on the website. I'm going to be hold "office hours" via email once a week on Tuesdays from 1pm to 2pm, at this time I should be very quickly responding to any questions you might have via email. I will also be checking and responding to emails throughout the week of course, my office hours are just a dedicated time for me to very quickly be responding to questions. I plan on using this page, the "Future Ready COVID-19 Shutdown" blog as the primary location for much of our class activities. If you are having any difficulties accessing this information or anything, please let me know as soon as possible. These are difficult and strange times and we are all learning how to navigate this new normal. This week, I wanted to provide you with some suggestions for things to do safely in the Stay at Home order which has been extended to May 4th. Click on the below link to an article from England that gives a lot of different suggestions for things you can do safely at home. Pick one or two suggestions to try out this week and next week during Spring Break. Take advantage of this time to learn new things and maybe practice old talents. Stay safe and healthy all!
Welcome to another week of school closures! This week I'm going to post a video about stress that I posted to my ASB class website last week. I found it incredibly interesting in terms of stress, mindset on stress, and health.
During this increasingly uncertain time in our lives, it is too easy to find ourselves overwhelmed by stress and thinking about all the ways that it can be damaging to us. This TedTalk regarding "Making Stress your Friend" really helped me to change my mindset about stress. Last week I sent each of you an email letting you know if you were missing any work or not. A couple of people have submitted work to me since then which is GREAT!!! Keep it coming. A picture of the work is all it takes, you don't need to scan it in or anything. As soon as I get it, I'll add it to the gradebook. Please keep an eye on this blog page, as it is where I'll be posting most of what we are going to be doing in the coming weeks. Please reach out to me and let me know if you're not getting emails or if this method isn't working for you. We will try and figure something out.
Hello students! I hope that this message finds you somewhere safe and happy during this strange time in our lives.
Per the District, we are not to move forward with curriculum in courses during this time but rather to maintain and strengthen your skills in what we have already discussed. This means that any activity or posting here are NOT due or included in the grade. They are activities for maintaining your skills and knowledge. It is recommended you participate in these activities so you can be ready when we return to school. However, for the few of you who may not be able to complete these, they will not be relied upon for information moving forward and therefore you will have no trouble moving forward with your peers. I'm going to be spending this week sending specific emails to each of you regarding missing work in the class that you can complete in order to bring your grades up during this time. I will be accepting work via email (pictures of worksheets will suffice) and I can grade and input past due work into the grade book. I will also be posting videos and activities I think will help reinforce some of the skills we have learned so far this semester, along with hopefully helping you in this troubling time. For today, here is a link to a 9 minute TED-talk about "Mindfulness" something we touched on earlier in the semester and something that might be useful in this time. The TED-talk also shows a guy juggling, and I thought maybe you might enjoy learning that new skill, so here's a link about learning how to juggle (my mom really likes these guys and was utilizing their videos earlier this year to learn how to juggle...how else can she entertain my 3 year old?!?!) |
